Take a deep breath. We can't stop at Barbican and Moorgate any more
First Capital Connect Thameslink route trains no longer call at Barbican and Moorgate stations; the route closed for good on 22 March 2009. Great Northern services are unaffected and will continue to call at Moorgate.
How can you cope? You can connect onto the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines at Farringdon, though the station is congested in the rush hour and this could delay your journey. We advise you to use alternative routes if you can.
It's bad enough losing two Thameslink route stations without having to buy a Tube ticket to complete your journey so First Capital Connect has come to an arrangement to ensure your FCC ticket will also cover journeys on the Tube to Barbican and Moorgate.
This is funded by the Government and guaranteed for 24 months from 22 March when the Thameslink route branch line closed. It applies to anyone travelling in from Bedford and stations north of London on the First Capital Connect Thameslink route to either Barbican or Moorgate (the cost of travelling to either Farringdon or Moorgate is the same).
So tell me WHY you can’t stop at Barbican and Moorgate stations any longer?
The Moorgate Thameslink route branch line had to close on 22 March 2009 so that a new timetable could be brought in that allows Network Rail to close three platforms at Blackfriars and start rebuilding the station. The branch also had to close for Network Rail to extend the Farringdon station platforms later in the year... Why close the branch line?
