Service update - Thameslink Programme

Are there problems with the Thameslink route service?

04-08-2009

Recently, some of the services on the Thameslink route have been shorter than normal or cancelled altogether. The underlying reason is the late delivery of the new Electrostar trains needed to resource the new Thameslink timetable.

Instead of 23 new trains needed to progress the crowd-busting Thameslink Programme, First Capital Connect (FCC) had received, as of 30 July, only 8.

Other train companies are lending FCC trains until the complete fleet is delivered later this year (which is why you will see green Southern carriages on the Thameslink route). However, there are fewer than are really needed to maintain the previously high reliability record of the train fleet.

The situation will improve as more trains are delivered. Meanwhile, FCC sincerely apologises for the delays and disruption to your journeys. Please believe that changes to the service are made only when there is no other option and that everything is being done to minimise disruption.
