Our engineers are carrying out platform extensions at two stations in South Cambridgeshire. The two stations are Shepreth and Foxton.

The work will take place between February and Autumn 2017 and is required to allow brand new Class 700 trains to call at these three stations. The new trains will:

  • provide an immediate capacity increase as the new trains are twice as long as current rolling stock
  • offer passengers journeys on longer, more spacious trains
  • be better connected to destinations in and around London from 2018 onwards
New longer class 700 trains for passengers at Meldreth, Shepreth and Foxton stations.

New longer class 700 trains for passengers at Meldreth, Shepreth and Foxton stations.

Click here for more information about the Thameslink Programme’s new trains.

The work at both stations is to extend one platform – in each case the Cambridge bound platform.

At both Shepreth and Foxton platform two will be extended by around 80m, doubling the length of these platforms to avoid the new, longer trains straddling the associated level crossings when calling at these stations.
