Benefits of Thameslink Programme

Thameslink operates on one of the busiest and most congested parts of the rail network. Passenger journeys in Great Britain have more than doubled in the last two decades since 2000, leading to a capacity crunch in London and the south east. With growth on such a scale, something had to be done to cope with the massive increase in passenger numbers.

Better stations, new trains, improved connections

The Thameslink Programme lays the foundations for the biggest transformation in services that this part of the rail network has seen in decades.

Facts and figures about the upgraded stations, infrastructure and trains

The Government has invested in the network to increase capacity, boost reliability, improve journeys by modernising the existing railway fabric, upgrade stations and introduce new trains.
