Maintaining a reliable service while introducing improvements
New routes, services and destinations will be introduced gradually over the next few timetable changes. This approach by the rail industry will aim to smooth their introduction and maintain a reliable service for passengers while improvements are introduced.
Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), which manages Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern routes, introduced a new fixed interim timetable in July 2018. It prioritised peak travel across the south east, to ensure people received a more reliable service after the introduction of the May 2018 timetable – the largest change in recent railway history.
Since July 2018 there has been more capacity for passengers than before May 2018. GTR is continuing to work closely with Network Rail and the Department for Transport to improve journeys for passengers and additional services were added in May 2019 as announced here.
